Docs Open org

Keyboard

Shortcuts for the whole app, and the Default, Vim and Org/Emacs keymaps for the editor.

org is built to be used from the keyboard. Press ? anywhere in the app to see the shortcuts, and Ctrl K for the command palette, which can do everything the menus can. On a Mac, read Cmd for Ctrl.

Single-letter shortcuts stand aside while you're typing in a field or the editor.

Editor keymaps

The editor has three keymaps. Choose one in Settings, Keymap; it follows you to every device.

  • Default: like Notion or Obsidian, with Org's outlining on top.
  • Vim: full Vim editing, with Org's commands on the same chords as the Org keymap.
  • Org/Emacs: Org mode's own bindings, and Emacs movement.

All three share Tab and Shift Tab for folding and tables, / at the start of a line to insert a block, and [[ to link to a page or entry.
